Symphony Hour (1942)
Symphony Hour Review
Symphony Hour a 1942 Mickey Mouse cartoon. It is a solid flick.
This would be a terrific film for the early thirties, but for the early forties it doesn’t quite click for me because I’ve seen stuff like this before as the musical stories where in particular they try to organize a concert and fail have been overdone by now. The entire first half of the film is weaker here with the second one being much better and much more memorable.
Yes, I loved Pete’s role in the film and he was great. Of course, Donald is also terrific and I really enjoyed all of his scenes. The rest are all serviceable with Mickey and Goofy delivering their expected roles, but nothing out of the ordinary or particularly exciting. The sound and animation are both great though.
Symphony Hour has a great turn from Pete and Donald, but others not so much. It’s a solid, but typical short with a familiar premise.
