Stop That Noise (1935)
Stop That Noise Review
Stop That Noise is a 1935 animated short film from the Betty Boop series. It is a such a strong flick.
A sleepless Betty can’t take the noise of the city anymore, so she heads out into the country for some peace and quiet. She soon discovers that the country has its own problems. You see, while the city has noisy traffic and construction, the countryside has noisy animals and insects that are an absolute nuisance to you. As somebody who has lived in both the countryside and the city for years now, I can attest to this movie’s realism.
It is an immensely relatable cartoon that was also gorgeously animated – her little car and that country house were especially beautiful. The score is forgettable, but the sound effects are great and Betty’s singing is reliably terrific. The mosquito sequence is the highlight of the short and I wish that we got to spend more time in that country as that section was the best one, but it was fleeting in its length. The ending was very amusing.
