Star Trek: The Next Generation Season 7 Review
The seventh season of Star Trek: The Next Generation is unfortunately the worst season of the show. It’s still solid, but far from great.

Descent, Part II is a very strong, entertaining and well crafted sequel to the last season’s cliffhanger finale. I really liked it. Liaisons is also surprisingly good with a respectable storyline and well utilized characters all around. Interface is another boring Geordi La Forge storyline. Gambit, Part I is better than Part II, but still both are good and I loved the emphasis on Riker here who excels in these types of heroic or conspiracy roles.
Phantasms isn’t terrific, but it’s still one of the best episodes of this season thanks in no small part to its very intriguing premise solidly utilized. Dark Page is actually pretty good having in mind it features Lwaxana Troi, but it’s twisted and different than usual by giving us Deanna trying to save her mother’s life and I really liked their relationship here. Attached finally sees Beverly Crusher and Picard get romantically involved and I quite liked it myself.
Inheritance is extremely forgettable itself whereas Parallels is a solid Worf storyline, but not all too memorable either. The Pegasus is one of those solid political thriller episodes that almost always work. Homeward is very annoying as Worf’s brother is insufferable and I have always cringed at this Worf family installments as they’re so mediocre.
Sub Rosa is considered to be one the worst episodes ever from this show and I agree as it’s so ridiculous and campy to its detriment. Lower Decks is forgettable, Thine Own Self is disparate in its two subplots which are both nonetheless rather solid and interesting and Masks is quite odd and disappointing. Eye of the Beholder is another disappointing Deanna Troi episode.
Genesis is nothing to write home about either and Gates McFadden did not direct it well at all which was to be expected from a new-timer. Journey’s End is absolutely ridiculous for making the future discriminatory toward Native Americans. Firstborn is actually one of the better Worf/Alexander episodes which surprised me with its complex themes.

Bloodlines is way too silly to be taken seriously, but Emergence is quite good despite its similar premise. Preemptive Strike is pretty fine. As for All Good Things… which is the two-parter finale, I really loved it, though I did not adore it as it felt overly emotionally manipulative just a bit. But still, I almost teared up at its ending which is so moving and Patrick Stewart is amazing here.
In the end, although this episode is very disappointing, it features some solid episodes and one great finale which is really heartwarming and epic. I am definitely going to miss this show and especially its crew of endearing characters.
Worst Episodes: Sub Rosa and Masks.
Best Episodes: Phantasms and All Good Things…
