Southern Fried Hospitality Review

Southern Fried Hospitality Review

Southern Fried Hospitality is a 1960 animated short film from the Woody Woodpecker series. It is a pretty solid entry in the series.

Gabby Gator is starving. He comes upon a recipe for southern-fried woodpecker and writes Woody a fan letter. Woody shows up to perform an act and about the three-quarter mark, realizes what is going on, and proceeds to take his revenge. This was a surprisingly strong cartoon that was solidly animated, very well voiced and quite entertaining throughout.

It’s not particularly funny and it wasn’t original at anything that it did, but at least it was solidly serviceable and amusing from start to finish. The highlight is the gator himself, who was so well voiced and actually a lot of fun. The scenes between the two were very well executed and quite entertaining and the ending was excellent.

Southern Fried Hospitality has a solid gator character, and although it’s not great, this is a solidly made short that is amusing throughout.

My Rating – 3.9
