Society Dog Show (1939)
Society Dog Show Review
Society Dog Show is a 1939 Mickey Mouse cartoon. It is a pretty good flick.
Mickey enrolls Pluto in a dog show where he falls in love with Fifi the Pekingese. I found this premise suitable for some great laughs and those unfortunately never came as the film is underutilized in the action/humor department. But still, I liked it quite a bit as it’s about dogs whom I love and Pluto is so good here. He stole the show and is as endearing as he always is.
Fifi is underused, but memorable still. Mickey also has his moments. I am pretty impressed by the animation in this short with the dog show setting being beautifully brought to life with a lot of details and great character designs. The score is also good and some scenes are very sweet, but I wanted more momentum for sure.
Society Dog Show needed to have been better, but it’s still pretty good, very endearing and also superbly animated.
