Showdown (1942)
Showdown Review
Showdown is a 1942 animated short film from Famous Studios. It is the eleventh entry in the Superman series.
Superman has to capture his impostor who’s a robber stealing jewelry all over the city for his crime boss. I loved the story as it was much different than what we’ve seen before in this series. This impostor stuff is very well executed, I loved the opera sequence and of course the ending is simply glorious.
I loved the pit scene, that was so well done, and the entire chase was excellent. Of course the final comedic banter between Lois and Clark was very amusing, and both are terrific in this film. Especially Superman was very badass here. The movie is a bit rushed overall as is the problem most of the entries share, but still the atmosphere is terrific, the plot is more different and the animation is absolutely spectacular with superbly realized settings.
Showdown is not only brilliantly animated, but also very well plotted and with a thrilling final act.
