Self Control (1938)
Self Control Review
Self Control is a 1938 animated short film from the Donald Duck series. It is a pretty good flick.
Donald tries to control his temper by following the advice of a radio program. This is yet another short in the series to focus on radios, though this one also established Donald as a character quite firmly. After all, the movie is all about his anger issues and how difficult it is for him to control his short temper. Donald is so much fun here and I loved both his design and his voice.
What I did not love here was the lack of any more original ideas or interesting gags. The movie is too long at eight minutes, thus about two minutes felt unnecessary. The repetitious nature to the gags was frustrating as Donald would continually be annoyed by some insect or bird. Eventually, it ends with him smashing the radio, which was a predictable, but amusing scene.
