Russian Rhapsody (1944)
Russian Rhapsody Review
Russian Rhapsody is a 1944 animated short film from the Merry Melodies series. It is a very amusing cartoon.
Gremlins from Kremlin are after Hitler. That’s the premise here. The film was obviously highly timely, but nowadays it’s rather interesting to see Russia portrayed positively in an American film. That’s why I respected this movie for showing the history (or the contemporary time back then) as it was and really happened. I still found the movie not particularly funny, but it’s at least quite entertaining.
The music is excellent. The theme song is very fun and cute whereas the gremlins themselves are very silly creations who really work here. They are the highlights whereas the others including Hitler are not all that memorable. The animation is very good and the character designs are particularly strong. I just wanted more plot and humor here.
Russian Rhapsody is not all that funny, but it is entertaining and so well animated as well as scored.
