Run, Run, Sweet Road Runner (1965)
Run, Run, Sweet Road Runner Review
Run, Run, Sweet Road Runner is a 1965 animated short film from the Merry Melodies series. It is a surprisingly solid entry in this series.
This was the first Road Runner short directed by a different director, but it’s surprisingly good owing to a couple of standout gags. The first gag is solid, but far from great. The bird seed gag was terrific, though. It featured a conclusion that was very inventive and quite funny as Wile E. Coyote was plummeted to the ground and the material on him gets peeled off like a banana.
As for the fake Road Runner gags, the first one was too slight and short, but the second one was phenomenal. It featured a very memorable score utilizing its Native American imagery as the coyote invited rain to come with his Indian dance. It was something different for the series, so it worked. How the gag ended was typical as I saw it coming from miles away, but it was still very funny to me. The animation is very strong here and so is the score.
