Rookie Revue (1941)
Rookie Revue Review
Rookie Revue is a 1941 animated short film from the Merry Melodies series. It is a pretty weak flick.
It basically follows once again military practice and various jokes surrounding the military, weapons and the war. It is mostly a spot-gag cartoon in its approach with a lot of needless narration per usual. Although I did find its animation truly terrific and with good character design plus the film is admirably mature and for adults, still I was bored with it.
I am really getting tired of these endless World War II shorts during this period in animation. Warner Bros. unfortunately employed those shorts much more than Disney even, and for a 21st century viewer, I found myself lost as the gags were hard to understand for anyone not well versed in US history.
Rookie Revue is well animated, but dated and with limited appeal. The Warner Bros. shorts from this period truly are the worst. Such a bad string of failures.
