Rhapsody in Rivets (1941)
Rhapsody in Rivets Review
Rhapsody in Rivets is a 1941 animated short film from the Merry Melodies series. It is a stupendous experiment.
The film follows a group of construction workers who rapidly build a huge building that eventually falls because it was hastily constructed. All of this is accompanied by Franz Liszt’s Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2 leading to a hugely innovative, important film in the history of animation, especially of Warner Bros. who have never before attempted such a feat.
The film needed more humor as only the ending is quite funny, but the characters are memorable for the short screen time they got and I loved their design. The animation here truly is amazing, so polished and so beautiful to behold with incredible attention to detail. The score is amazing as this classic composition is a classic for a reason and the mixing of the two is done to an almost perfect extent.
Rhapsody in Rivets is a truly remarkable musical feat that ranks as one of the finest and most revolutionary Merry Melodies so far.
