R’coon Dawg (1951)
R’coon Dawg Review
R’coon Dawg is a 1951 Mickey Mouse cartoon. It is such a forgettable flick.
I did like Pluto here of course as it is about him. He follows a raccoon and unsuccessfully pursues him while the coon tricks him and makes fun of him constantly. I did like the coon, and especially how it looks. Some of their moments were great and I particularly loved the charming animation at display here.
However, the movie isn’t as energetic and fun as it needed to have been plus the humor is lacking. I did like the action, but I didn’t love it. Everything here is solid, but nothing is beyond that level. And for a Mickey Mouse cartoon, and it does belong in that series, Mickey himself only appears in one single scene/moment. I honestly think that Pluto should have received his very own series as they obviously had a lot of material for him.
R’coon Dawg is problematic in how it handles Mickey, but Pluto himself is excellent and the animation is so nice here.
