Racketeer Rabbit (1946)
Racketeer Rabbit Review
Racketeer Rabbit is a 1946 animated short film from the Looney Tunes series. It is a pretty good Bugs Bunny outing.
This one is all about parodying various gangster flicks from the thirties and it’s pretty successful at that. The film managed to be a lot of fun to me despite my general dislike for this genre. I found the second act problematic as it’s nowhere near as memorable as the rest of the cartoon, but the rest is so good.
I liked the opening quite a bit and we are well introduced to these new characters with Rocky being a terrific new addition to this series as this very amusing, well designed gangster. But Bugs of course steals the show and is here much more inventive and crazier than in many of his recent films. I loved the entire suitcase sequence and the ending is hilarious.
Racketeer Rabbit has its flaws, but it’s overall a stupendous gangster parody with a particularly terrific finale.
