Quentin Quail (1946)
Quentin Quail Review
Quentin Quail is a 1946 animated short film from the Merry Melodies series. It is a weaker entry.
It follows a quail who hunts a worm for his daughter, but when he finally catches the worm, the daughter doesn’t wanna eat him ’cause he looks like Frank Sinatra. Needless to say, that twist ending is absolutely ludicrous. It is another overly timely joke for its audiences, but it doesn’t work because it’s too silly and coming out of nowhere.
I did like the screwball comedy elements in this film though and especially the dynamic between the two characters was so good. The dialogue and voice acting are particularly effective. But the animation needed to have been better and the plot is simply overly lazy for the 1946 Warner Bros. flick. I came to expect more from the studio during this decade.
Quentin Quail definitely has fine voice acting and dialogue, but a silly ending and a weaker storyline.
