Prehistoric Porky (1940)
Prehistoric Porky Review
Prehistoric Porky is a 1940 animated short film from the Looney Tunes series. It is a very amusing entry.
Finally we get a Porky Pig cartoon and a proper one with him in the full starring role. Here he lives in prehistoric period and upon seeing a new fashion model in the newspapers, he goes out to find an animal to clobber for clothes. This film is definitely very atmospheric and fueled with excellent attention to detail as it recreates this period so well.
Porky is wonderful and very endearing and all of the dinosaurs and other animals are also very memorable. The designs are particularly strong and the overall animation is exceptional with phenomenal imagery at display. The score’s also quite good. I liked the gags with the “naked” animals, but other gags such as the ending and revolving around strength weren’t the most inspired choices. But still the film ended up being very entertaining, if not truly funny.
Prehistoric Porky features terrific animation, a good plot and pretty memorable, finally well utilized Porky Pig.
