Porky’s Snooze Reel (1941)
Porky’s Snooze Reel Review
Porky’s Snooze Reel is a 1941 animated short film from the Looney Tunes series. It is a solid, messy flick.
This is another spot-gag cartoon which is usually reserved for Merry Melodies, but here we get a Looney Tunes entry filled with gag after gag. The problem with this film is that it is too messy and incoherent. It is oddly edited and put together plus the movie has no structure or a through line as the scenes make fun of various spheres of life with no connectivity to them whatsoever.
The ending was weaker and at least half the segments here are forgettable, but I liked the war scenes which were quite fun and the redneck scene was pretty good. The highlight is the income tax segment which is clever and highly timely and relevant for 1941 and a further proof of how clever and insightful this series was back in its day.
Porky’s Snooze Reel is oddly put together and unconnected, but with a couple of clever, amusing segments.
