Porky’s Preview (1941)
Porky’s Preview Review
Porky’s Preview is a 1941 animated short film from the Looney Tunes series. It is a very authentic short.
Yes, this is one of the most purely original shorts from Warner Bros. so far. Porky Pig opens his movie in a theater and various animals attend the screening but only the skunk stays through the end as his smell made everyone leave. Now I do find the film way too short and it’s ridiculous that when they finally did get a bright, splendid idea, they made the film quite short.
But it worked overall and frequently in brilliant fashion. I did like Porky here and although the film isn’t hilarious constantly, it is funny in some scenes with the ending being particularly effective. Naturally the highlight is Porky’s picture which is amusingly animated in a crude kid’s style with primitive figurines and movements. That made the film very realistic and actually rather funny. It is also accompanied by great tunes.
Porky’s Preview is such an authentic film which brings us the look of crude children’s paintings beautifully to life with great humor as well.
