Porky’s Cafe (1942)
Porky’s Cafe Review
Porky’s Cafe is a 1942 animated short film from the Looney Tunes series. It is a very slight flick.
This is one of the rare cartoons from this period in Warner Bros. history to actually star Porky Pig in its entirety. Yes, he’s the main attraction here as he’s working in a cafe and trying to satisfy a customer to some amusing, failed results. Now, I did like that he was used here throughout the whole cartoon and he’s rather endearing and you root for him, but the other guy is unfortunately not as memorable.
The plot is pretty weak and the action is for the most part rather uninspired leading to a pretty humorless situational comedy which doesn’t really work. The score is fine and the animation is, I guess, okay. But I cannot really review it beyond the character design phase having in mind that I watched the simply horrible, unappealing 1992 computer colorized version.
Porky’s Cafe is definitely a solid emphasis on Porky Pig, but other than that, the plot is slim and the situations aren’t particularly funny.
