Porky’s Bear Facts (1941)
Porky’s Bear Facts Review
Porky’s Bear Facts is a 1941 animated short film from the Looney Tunes series. It is a pretty solid short.
This is basically Warner Bros. version of the tale of The Grasshopper and the Ants but because the bear in the role of the hopper is harmless and doesn’t learn his lesson, the short ended up being much weaker than the Disney one. I liked its lighter tone, but still it ended up being a bit too light. But the animation and score are solid as is the pacing.
The bear is a fun, amusing character with his singing and the dog is solid as well. The film again uses Porky way too little, but I liked that he was the hard working one here as that suited his character very well. The ending is definitely pretty sweet as is the beginning, but the film had too much singing and not enough stakes.
Porky’s Bear Facts is a solid adaptation of this famous tale with its message blunted, but with good characterization and humor.
