Porky the Rain-Maker (1936)
Porky the Rain-Maker Review
Porky the Rain-Maker is a 1936 animated short film from the Looney Tunes series. It is an original flick.
Porky has problems with the farm, but once he gets the pills that make rain, everything turns out great. This is a very unique idea for an animated short and it meant that the animation and especially some of the gags were very inventive. I liked those chicken and goose gags as they portrayed so well how hungry they always are and the way they were punished was quite amusing.
The problem here is that I do not know what is the point of having some of the pills here such as for thunder or earthquake. That seems odd to me. The rain is the only logical one and even the way that pill was eventually used was too convenient and not the best way to get there. The film definitely has its problems but the originality is undisputed.
Porky the Rain-Maker is very uneven in execution, but the idea behind it is so authentic that it ultimately works.
