My Pop, My Pop (1940)
My Pop, My Pop Review
My Pop, My Pop is a 1940 animated short from Popeye the Sailor series. It is a solid, but flawed episode.
My Pop, My Pop is interesting for having a good use of Popeye’s father and surely he’s great here and their dynamic is excellent. I loved that ending and some of the lines here were hilarious and coming from both sides. They definitely feel like father and son and are wonderful together.
However, the film is awfully slight and uneventful. Not much happens here and that was a big problem to me. It felt too empty and quite boring in its middle parts. You can’t make a whole short of just basically one good joke and this entry proves that. That’s a shame because these two deserve a much better material and unfortunately they never get one.
