 Protek the Weakerist is a 1937 animated short from Popeye the Sailor series. It is a solid, but ultimately not as great entry.

Popeye walks Olive’s dog and must fight Bluto and his larger dog. It is unfortunate that this great concept with puppies is wasted on a very standard execution. Yes, that ending is pretty good and this movie has its entertaining moments, but it is ultimately too clichéd and too typical and that led to a lackluster episode.

Protek the Weakerist has a great Popeye and that dog is cute, but I wanted more from Bluto and his dog as they were only present in the second half and weren’t as best utilized. But no matter how typical this short is, it is still very amusing and at times even charming and I overall liked it for the most part. And yes, that ending is so endearing and perfect.

Protek the Weakerist has a nice concept, but not that great execution. It is funny in its ending and is entertaining, but mostly too clichéd to be enjoyed more.
