Polka-Dot Puss (1949)
Polka-Dot Puss Review
Polka-Dot Puss is a 1949 animated short that is the 39th of Tom and Jerry shorts. It is a flawed, but quite good cartoon.
This short is one of my childhood favorites, the one that I remember seeing a lot as a kid. And I really like it now as an adult too. The premise is excellent and the second half is superb. Yes, the first half is uneventful and weaker and the measles could have been better animated, but those are the only flaws in an otherwise very good film.
I loved Jerry’s torturing Tom here and those doctor scenes were priceless. The ending is also really cute and I loved a couple of moments here with Tom’s realization that he has been fooled being reflected in the mirror as a jackass being hilarious and such a nice touch. There are many great moments here and I wish that the first half was as strong as the second one. But the action and the scenarios are great leading to a very good flick that wonderfully opened this year for the duo.
