Pluto’s Dream House (1940)
Pluto’s Dream House Review
Pluto’s Dream House is a 1940 Mickey Mouse cartoon. It is such a terrific flick.
Mickey and Pluto stumble upon a magical lamp and then Mickey orders it to make Pluto a house, but it eventually starts misbehaving and torturing the poor dog. I liked that promising beginning and of course that ending where the lamp did all of those different things to Pluto was truly a remarkable feat of animation while also being very amusing. But the highlight for me was that middle part with the building of the house.
I loved the color gag as it was so well executed and the lamp has a great voice too. Pluto is wonderful here – very endearing and quite funny. However, Mickey is not all that present and he’s kind of an asshole in this movie. The animation, though, is gorgeous and that house had so many details that it simply felt very cozy just looking at it on the screen.
Pluto’s Dream House is a wonderful flick thanks to strong animation, great Pluto and a winning premise well used for laughs.
