Pluto’s Christmas Tree (1952)
Pluto’s Christmas Tree Review
Pluto’s Christmas Tree is a 1952 Mickey Mouse cartoon. It is a fine entry.
This one is pretty much of the same quality level as the previous short starring Chip ‘n Dale called ‘Squatter’s Rights’. That means it’s solid, but rarely truly great. I did like some moments, but most of it was repetitive for me where Pluto chased the two and only the candle scene felt memorable of those sequences.
But I adored that ending. That final gag where Pluto’s howling annoys the chipmunks was hilarious and that’s where the cartoon reached its full potential, but seeing Goofy and Donald in the moment before that singing in front of Mickey’s house was so wonderful. It made me wonder why they abandoned these characters in favor of one-off creations or basically just Pluto and Mickey. I really don’t get that as this trio was golden back in their day.
Pluto’s Christmas Tree has a superb ending with both a cameo scene and the final gag being terrific, but the rest isn’t all that great or inspired.
