Pigs in a Polka (1943)
Pigs in a Polka Review
Pigs in a Polka is a 1943 animated short film from the Merry Melodies series. It is a classic short.
This is a parody of Disney’s classic ‘Three Little Pigs’ and basically a classical music version of the tale. It succeeds at parodying its subject so well while still being a great film on its own. The characters are excellent and very endearing in their design. And the wolf is great with his narration opening being quite memorable.
The animation is phenomenal and distinctly different in style from all the other Merry Melodies so far. I really liked that polished feel to it. Of course, the score is fantastic. Brahms’ Hungarian Dances are perfectly utilized into the action and the action is great itself, but the amazing score makes is even better. It’s a very classy movie and although weaker than ‘Rhapsody in Rivets’, it’s still one of the best in the series so far. I wanted a longer runtime for sure though.
Pigs in a Polka is somewhat rushed, but superbly animated and scored with the action being so well executed.
