Parvis Review

Parvis Review

Parvis is a 2021 Canadian French-language short film directed by Laurence Gagne-Fregeau. It is a very thin flick.

It offers a look within Laurie’s journey, throughout a night out with friends, to embrace her identity. The entirety of the movie consists of one sequence basically. In that scene, a guy gives a haircut to a girl. She is now sporting a lesbian haircut, so the message here is one preaching self-acceptance and honesty.

My issue with the movie is not the message itself, but the execution of said message. It could have been a much more interesting movie had it focused on a couple of more important transitional moments for Laurie, but by focusing on just the hairstyle, the movie felt both limited and pointless. It was too short and slim even for a short film.

Overall, Parvis was a very weak movie that had a solid message, but it felt one-note and thin in its one-scenario approach solely.

Watched in my hometown at Basta Fest 2022.

My Rating – 2.5
