Paperman (2012)
Paperman Review
Paperman is a 2012 Disney Oscar winning animated short film that is one of the best animated shorts of the century, maybe even of all time.
Yes, this short is that great! Paperman follows a young man who has a romantic encounter on the bus station with a beautiful young woman. She works in the next building and he tries to send her a paper plane, but fails repeatedly. Eventually, the planes become alive and they themselves arrange that the two meet again. Yes, the story is simply lovely as it is so incredibly romantic that anyone should feels pure, simple joy watching it. The ending and the beginning are especially beautiful.
Paperman should have been a bit longer, but it is still very well edited and stupendously directed. The six and a half minutes fly by and all of it is simply enchanting in the best Disney magical way possible. I like both of the characters and I love how the paper planes became alive as that magical element is essential to any Disney classic. Naturally, one of the standouts here is the animation which is simply stunning and highly authentic, even groundbreaking in its mix of computer animation and traditional, hand-drawn animation. The designs, backgrounds and the effects are all superb and I really liked its polished black-and-white look.
So Paperman is one of Disney’s biggest classics of short animation with simply beautiful animation and one highly romantic, magical storyline.
