Origami (2024)
Origami Review
Origami is a 2024 Japanese animated short film directed by Kei Kanamori. It’s a pretty artistic short.
Origami is a Japanese traditional art form of paper folding. This film explores the infinite possibilities of origami to bring life and wonder to the simplest material. Every aspect of the film is based on the skills and techniques used in actual origami art. When you think of the art of Japan, origami is probably one of the main concepts that come to mind and this movie mined that beautifully to create a very artistic and elegant viewing experience.
This is a very short movie, clocking in at just around three minutes. Thus, it never overstayed its welcome, but it also never achieved transcendence because of its briskness. Naturally, it is devoid of narrative for better and for worse. But what it has is a truly fantastic score that lifted the whole movie to greater heights. The animation is absolutely gorgeous and very realistic as all of these paper forms look believable and as if they were made from real paper.
