One Meat Brawl (1947)
One Meat Brawl Review
One Meat Brawl is a 1947 animated short film from the Merry Melodies series. It is a strong Porky Pig entry.
Barnyard Dawg is here without Foghorn Leghorn. He is Porky’s pet and he sends him to bring him a groundhog, but to no avail as the groundhog uses the sob story tactics on the dog to evade capture. It’s a hilarious film filled with at least three moments that really made me laugh out loud which I did not expect, but those sob stories were so funny, especially the many kids part and the wife not having nylons. Great stuff there.
The groundhog truly is a hilarious character and I loved his dialogue throughout. He steals the show from Porky and Dawg who are both actually very good, but the hog is the star here for sure. I found the animation okay, if not great. And the same goes for the score. The ending is not the greatest, but every other scene is so strong and it flies by how fun it is.
One Meat Brawl has its problems, but all three characters are excellent with the groundhog stealing the show with many hilarious lines of dialogue.
