Nasty Quacks (1945)
Nasty Quacks Review
Nasty Quacks is a 1945 animated short film from the Merry Melodies series. It is a solid Daffy Duck entry.
I appreciated the energy in this cartoon which is certainly off-the-roof. Melissa Duck has her first ever appearance here and she’s memorable and fun for sure, but I need to see more from her and hopefully I will in the future. Daffy is great per usual and a lot of fun whereas that man chasing him is also quite good.
The main problem with the film, though, is that energy which ultimately comes to the detriment of the story which is all over the place and the movie simply felt too weird and disconnected and jumping from one crazy scene to another with no apparent thread between them and quite weak editing. I also did not get to appreciate it fully owing to a weak version that I watched with bad animation, but I am certain that the animation in the real version was much better.
Nasty Quacks is madcap, crazy and solidly utilized in its characters, but weakly plotted, overly frenetic and problematically edited.
