Mr. Duck Steps Out Review

Mr. Duck Steps Out Review

Mr. Duck Steps Out is a 1940 animated short film from the Donald Duck series. It is a very charming short.

Donald has a date with Daisy, which is constantly interrupted by his nephews. This was the first cartoon to feature Daisy Duck as Donald’s romantic interest. ‘Don Donald’ had her, but with a different name. This one established her for the first time and she was very endearing. Her voice being the same as the nephews’ voices was odd, but she was a delightful presence nonetheless.

Donald is also very charming here and it made me laugh when he was dressing up and acting all gentlemanly. The nephews are nuisances as always, but some of their gags are quite fun here with the highlight being the popcorn gag. The movie is classical and more in line with Mickey’s than Donald’s movies in its strong emphasis on romance and music, but it worked because the score was super groovy and entertaining and the energy palpable.

Mr. Duck Steps Out is an overly old-fashioned cartoon, but one that still worked due to excellent music and a lot of charm to it.

My Rating – 3.9
