Mouse Menace (1946)
Mouse Menace Review
Mouse Menace is a 1946 animated short film from the Looney Tunes series. It is a standard cat and mouse short.
Porky Pig has a mouse in the house and hires a cat and then a mountain lion to get rid of him, but to no avail. Then he constructs a robotic cat which does manage to evade the mouse’s attacks and defenses, but eventually he blows up the cat with a dynamite. I liked the ending quite a bit with that line “Should I tell him?” being so well delivered by the mouse who’s a solid creation here.
The movie has its moments for sure and Porky is fine, but underused once again. The others are forgettable and I found the overall formula to the cartoon tiresome as well as most of its action. I honestly think that whenever the Warner Bros. cartoons tried to copy MGM’s Tom and Jerry they just failed miserably as that series remains untouched and iconic. I would thus like less cat and mouse cartoons from other studios.
Mouse Menace has its moments, especially the fun ending, but it’s an uninspired film for the majority of its runtime owing to a tiresome premise.
