Modern Inventions (1937)
Modern Inventions Review
Modern Inventions is a 1937 Mickey Mouse cartoon. It is a hilarious flick.
This is the final film in the Mickey Mouse series to star Donald as later on he would finally get his very own series. Although even more could have been done with this premise and the first act is weaker, Modern Inventions is still excellent and even better than ‘Don Donald’. So the duck is in the inventions museum where he encounters various robotic helpings to great anger.
The highlights are the baby simulation sequence which is absolutely terrific and so funny and of course the barber scene is hilarious. I loved that running gag with the hat which culminated in an amusing ending. This cartoon is entertaining and funny throughout featuring absolutely hilarious Donald who made me smile quite a lot. His initial intrigued expressions and eventual anger are beautifully realized thanks to terrific character animation. The inventions also look great.
Modern Inventions features a terrific premise well mined for laughs. It’s a well animated and very funny short featuring hilarious Donald Duck at the height of his powers.
I enjoyed Donald Duck modern inventions because I liked how Donald Duck who wore a blue shirt and white hat but no pants and shoes, how he didn’t like robots or AI technology and I liked how he scammed his way into the Museum of Modern Marvels, then the robot butler stole his hats, and then Donald Duck played with the hitch hikers kit which the robot poked his eyes, then messed with the bundle wrapper which wrapped Donald Duck before he freed himself.
Then in the first best part, he hid from the robot and played in the baby buggy and wears a baby bonnet and acted like a baby and got squirted in the face with milk twice and then the machine put a diaper on Donald’s feathery bottom since he didn’t wear pants then takes off his diaper right before examining the barber machine with a bowler hat on him.
Then the best part is the He tries to scam the machine but it malfunctioned and sprung Donald Duck upside down with him landing his head and beak on the shoe shiner laying on his stomach while his feathery rear end sticks up on the chair. Then it seatbelt locks Donald’s exposed rear end in the chair while his neck and hands are locked on the shoe shiner. I liked how the machine gave Donald’s rear end a haircut and but a hot towel on him and combed and parted his rear end with a pig tail while his face got brushed and black shoe polished on him and rubbed his face and beak until he has a shiny black face. Then the machine frees Donald Duck with a rear end haircut with his bowel hat on it and black face and the robot takes his hat before throwing a temper tantrum and ends on a cliffhanger.
It’s too bad there wasn’t a sequel how Donald Duck dealt with the embarrassing haircut shoe shined face or tried to steal back his hats and how his 3 nephews or Daisy Duck would react to Donald’s rear end haircut. Maybe I’ll make a fan cartoon video sequel to Donald Duck Modern Inventions where he complains to the museum staff about the machines malfunctioning and doing a lawsuit against them to have them shut down Modern Marvels museum.
