Minding the Baby is a 1931 animated short film from the Talkartoons series.

Bimbo’s minding his baby brother, but neighbor Betty Boop (with dog’s ears) wants him to come over and play. This is one of the most sexual entries in the series and I loved it for it. Bimbo is so turned on by Betty here and that is evident through the flick’s very funny dialogue that is full of double entendres.

My only issue with this movie is the inclusion of a baby subplot. It was tiresome and I’ve seen a similar storyline dozens of times in these older cartoons. Had it not been concerned with this tired plot, the flick would have been so much better. The animation and score are just okay too, but the dialogue is great and you cannot find much better when it comes to Betty and Bimbo’s dynamic.

Minding the Baby is a flawed cartoon that is weakly plotted, but excellent in dialogue, humor and characterization.
