Mighty Mouse in Gypsy Life (1945)
Mighty Mouse in Gypsy Life Review
Mighty Mouse in Gypsy Life is a 1945 animated short film from the Mighty Mouse series by Terrytoons. It is such a good flick.
In this entry in this famous superhero series of short films, Mighty Mouse has to save the other mice by fighting with their attackers – the cat bats. Yes, the cats here have wings like bats, and are after the poor mice. That made for an odd, but instantly memorable imagery. Although the action spectacle appears only in the third act, but it’s terrific and a lot of fun.
What is dated here is the opera singing with the characters singing throughout the entire short. However, that to me was extremely entertaining and just the right amount of silly and charming that it ultimately really worked. The singing and the dialogue are so fun, and the animation is absolutely stupendous. The attention to detail is staggering, and it’s overall so polished and painterly.
Mighty Mouse in Gypsy Life is tremendously animated and polished. Though silly, it’s also a lot of undeniable fun.
