Mickey’s Surprise Party (1938)
Mickey’s Surprise Party Review
Mickey’s Surprise Party is a 1938 Mickey Mouse cartoon. It is a pretty problematic flick.
Let’s just state the positives first as the movie is still very good. Mickey and Minnie are both wonderful here. She so obviously wanted to cook her cookies for her man that it was a really sweet gesture whereas he helped her in the end by bringing in new cookies for them so that she would stop crying. Their romance continues to shine and I still do think that they deserved to get more shorts for themselves.
As for Pluto and Fifi, they also have a romance of sorts here and, although shorter in length, they still make an impression as this adorable dog couple that they most certainly are. The animation is also very good, but the runtime is simply way too short and I wanted more of it for sure. But the biggest negative aspect is the commercial part to it as that ending where they promoted some American cookies was simply too aggressive for me.
Mickey’s Surprise Party is one giant commercial for sure, but at least the characters get their romantic storylines and the film is so sweet overall.
