Mickey’s Polo Team (1936)
Mickey’s Polo Team Review
Mickey’s Polo Team is a 1936 Mickey Mouse cartoon. It is such a fun entry.
The Mickey Mousers team consisting of Mickey, Goofy, Big Bad Wolf and Donald participates in a polo game against the Movie Stars team consisting of Oliver Hardy, Harpo Marx, Chaplin and Stan Laurel. Polo is a somewhat amusing sport to me in cartoons, certainly more interesting than baseball, so I found that choice pretty satisfactory. The action should have been better as it’s not particularly inventive, but it’s still pretty solid.
The film is well animated, though weakly scored. Some parts work better than others. But of course the highlight is seeing all those famous cartoon stars and celebrities together in one film. Although many do not get enough screen time, a lot of them steal the show such as Oliver and Hardy who are excellent with their horse also being quite funny. I also loved seeing the three pigs, Clark Gable was amusing and Donald himself is excellent in the third act.
Mickey’s Polo Team opens the year of 1936 with tremendous success thanks to a winning premise and a lot of amusing comedic moments.
