Mickey’s Parrot (1944)
Mickey’s Parrot Review
Mickey’s Parrot is a 1938 Mickey Mouse cartoon. It is a very strong, funny short.
A parrot comes into Mickey’s house. He gets scared in the basement owing to a typically cartoony misunderstanding whereas Pluto gets to deal with the wisecrack parrot himself. I personally found the structure problematic as it led to the parrot interacting with the two in such a slight screen time, but still I loved both scenarios quite a bit.
Mickey getting scared down there was just so amusing and the entire scene pleasantly reminded me of ‘Snow White’ as they also reused some of its animation which is understandable as it came out a year ago. But Mickey is great here as is Pluto who is reliably endearing. His interactions with the parrot were great, but some of the parrots lines were absolute gold and especially that “what a swell joint” line cracked me up. He’s such a great personality that he needed much more screen time.
Mickey’s Parrot is well scored and so well animated while also being pretty funny in some situations and a couple of winning lines of dialogue.
