Mickey’s Garden (1935)
Mickey’s Garden Review
Mickey’s Garden is a 1935 Mickey Mouse cartoon. It is a strong entry.
Mickey tries to get rid of the insects in his garden, but gets hit in the head and starts imagining things. This is very much a drug-oriented film which was weird to witness in a Mickey Mouse/Disney series, but they absolutely made it. It’s not particularly funny, but it’s honestly a lot of fun watching Mickey lose the sense of reality. Those imaginary, hallucinatory sequences are so well imagined and animated.
I did find the character design somewhat problematic in certain parts, but mostly the film looks really good and the colors are highly polished. The score’s okay, but forgettable. Pluto is pretty good in his color debut, but not as memorable as Mickey who’s here really fantastic. I found the garden very visually appealing and the action in the second half is the obvious highlight.
Mickey’s Garden definitely is a fun drug-oriented Mickey Mouse cartoon filled with weird imagery and Mickey who absolutely lost it.
