Mickey Down Under (1948)
Mickey Down Under Review
Mickey Down Under is a 1948 Mickey Mouse cartoon. It is such a good short.
Similar to ‘Mickey and the Armadillo’, this one also is a setting short, this time around the duo is in Australia. And by duo I mean Mickey and Pluto and I have to say that I love the shorts with just the two of them and the studio did too as they were quiet abundant during this period. The beginning and ending are weaker here, but the middle parts are the best and most memorable.
Everything with the ostrich is so good and that entire confrontation is very well executed. I loved the animation on the ostrich and how much bigger it is than the mouse. That was great. Pluto got less to do here and Mickey got more which was interesting and I liked the emphasis on him and he’s great. I just wanted some more emphasis on the continent and maybe another animal or something.
Mickey Down Under is simplistic, but it works because the ostrich is so well realized and Mickey is great here.
