Meet John Doughboy (1941)
Meet John Doughboy Review
Meet John Doughboy is a 1941 animated short film from the Looney Tunes series. It is a very weak short.
Because this is the year of 1941, now these kinds of shorts are obligatory to come in spades. So basically, this is a military short film where we follow a bunch of military exercises as well as weapons, tanks and soldiers. There is nothing here more than just a military comedy.
And as a parody it fails because it isn’t particularly funny. Some moments are amusing, but most are wasted and not particularly innovative or clever. I do admit that the animation is excellent. The score is weak, but the film is stylized in look and actually very well designed and shot. But other than that, I found it subpar.
Meet John Doughboy is so well animated and with some fine moments here and there, but most of the film is not a particularly funny parody.
