Goopy Geer (1932)
Goopy Geer Review
Goopy Geer is a 1932 animated short film from the Merry Melodies series. It is solid introduction to this character.
I will need to see more from this character (and apparently I will), but for now he isn’t particularly interesting, though he is better and more memorable than most Merry Melodies characters so far. The film itself isn’t great, but is solid and serves its purpose.
Goopy Geer is well made and it is solid as a musical as the entire plot revolves around the nightclub. The music is the selling point here for sure. But the plot of course is lacking and the film isn’t particularly memorable as a whole. But the characters are solid and the humor is at least somewhat okay with a couple of interesting moments. But this is mostly a setup for the titular character and I hope he gets more to do in the future.
Goopy Geer is solid and introduces the character quite well, but is overall not the greatest in terms of the plot.
