The Booze Hangs High (1930)
The Booze Hangs High Review
The Booze Hangs High is a 1930 animated short film from the Looney Tunes series. It is a very crazy cartoon.
This is one of the wildest Looney Tunes thus far, that’s for sure. It features some pretty incredibly imagery for a cartoon, especially during that time. But having in mind that it came before the Hays Code, it is understandable that they got away with it. Now first let me say that the first half is pretty weak and uneventful. How many times are we going to see the same dance sequences and the same cow repeated again and again?
But the second half fixes all of that with that drunk sequence which is so entertaining. The little pigs get drunk and then their father does the same and they all end up dancing with Bosko as the credits start to come in. Needless to say, the booze drinking is so adult and admirable and I loved how they put it here as it was done in a hilarious manner.
The Booze Hangs High is crazy and mature, but weaker and repetitive in its first half.
My Rating – 3.8
