Little Red Riding Rabbit (1944)
Little Red Riding Rabbit Review
Little Red Riding Rabbit is a 1944 animated short film from the Merry Melodies series. It is a hilarious cartoon.
Warner Bros. is famous for fairy tale parodies among many things in their animated short series and this is one of the better such efforts. Little Red Riding Hood is wonderfully used for comedic effect and turned on its head where the titular character is an obnoxious, annoying girl who never finishes her speech about the wolf and eventually gets her comeuppance for being annoying in that gloriously funny, unforgettable finale.
The Wolf himself is also very good and I really liked his voice and personality whereas Bugs is rather aggressive in this cartoon which I liked quite a bit. I love when he’s super competent such as he is here. Some of the chases could have been more memorable, but the dialogue is terrific, the animation is so strong and the humor is absolutely fantastic and so sophisticated.
Little Red Riding Rabbit opens the year of 1943 for Merry Melodies gloriously owing to clever humor, an authentic parody story and terrific characterization.
