Little Nobody (1935)
Little Nobody Review
Little Nobody is a 1935 animated short film from the Betty Boop series. It is a very slight short.
Pudgy the pup meets the female pup next door, whose snobbish owner calls him a “little nobody”. A pep talk from Betty Boop turns Pudgy into a hero and he ends up rescuing that female dog from the stream. This is yet another Pudgy-oriented short and by this point I am starting to miss Betty be the star in her own series. This movie has a very simplistic plot and it’s not particularly funny either.
But the ending was sweet and memorable while Pudgy being a hero is always wonderful to witness. There is an endearing quality to this short as Pudgy is always adorable and his exploits are fun. The song that Betty sings to him is sweet per usual. My issue with the animation here is that it felt cheaper than usual for the series with the female dog in particular not being well animated at all.
Little Nobody has its wonderful moments and an endearing Pudgy, but its slight plot and weak animation prevented it from reaching greatness.
My Rating – 3.3
