Life with Feathers (1945)
Life with Feathers Review
Life with Feathers is a 1945 animated short film from the Merry Melodies series. It is a very strong one.
Sylvester is here finally, but without Tweety unfortunately. Instead we get a fatter, bluer bird who hates his wife and wants to commit suicide, but the cat doesn’t want to eat him so he continues to make the cat do it. It’s a very strong, original premise which twists this usual cat-bird formula on its head. Though the second act left a lot to be desired owing to a more repetitive execution, the rest of the cartoon is pretty solid stuff.
I particularly liked the beginning which set it up so well, but the ending is excellent too and perfect for this story. The bird is quite likable and Sylvester is classic Sylvester and I can’t wait to see more of him as he has finally arrived to the series. The animation and action are also pretty good here.
Life with Feathers has its weaker parts, but the characters are both strong and the premise itself is excellent.
