Lady and the Tramp II: Scamp’s Adventure Movie Review
Lady and the Tramp II: Scamp’s Adventure is a 2001 direct-to-video animated musical film from Disneytoon Studios. It’s another mediocre sequel.

The garbage adds some class“

Lady and Tramp’s son Scamp longs for freedom from house rules and dreams of becoming a “wild dog”. One day, he runs away from home and joins the “Junkyard Dogs”. He also meets Angel, another stray, but later finds himself forced to choose between the excitement and adventure of running wild and the love and devotion of his family back home. Needless to say, this plot is a rehash of the original, but done in a much weaker manner.
Whereas ‘Lady and the Tramp’ is a lovely romance, this one is anything but. The romance is pedestrian and very boring whereas the overall plot of not fitting in was done much better many times before in countless infinitely more accomplished flicks.
I found Scamp overall very underutilized as a character. His parents deserved better roles, though I did really appreciate the father-son relationship that was the heart of this film. Those scenes between the two are the only truly good moments you can find here.
Anything else is weak. Lady and The Tramp II: Scamp’s Adventure is ridiculously short and it still felt too long owing to those annoying sidekicks known as the Junkyard Dogs. I found them loud and obnoxious. As for the film’s musical numbers, the less said about them, the better. All are very mediocre. I did like the animation, though. It was okay and at times even charming for direct-to-video standards. I also found the movie faithful to the original, just inferior in every regard.

Lady and the Tramp II: Scamp’s Adventure has its fine moments and solid animation, but most of the characters are mediocre, the plot is nothing to write home about and the musical numbers are so weak. It’s thus a forgettable, unnecessary sequel.
My Rating – 2.5
