Kiddie League Review

Kiddie League Review

Kiddie League is a 1959 animated short film from the Woody Woodpecker series. It is a weak flick.

The final baseball game of the Kiddie League pits pitcher Woody Woodpecker and his team (the Woody Woodpeckers) against a zany team, the Bubble Gummers, who are essentially kids and babies. I did not care for this one. Once again we get a baseball-themed cartoon and I could not care less for that boring sport, and certainly the action and gags here are quite tedious.

The animation is only serviceable and Woody is thoroughly sidelined in favor of these annoying kids, who simply weren’t funny to me at all. The only saving grace here was that one stellar scene where Woody talks to the referee while waiting for the ball to arrive super slowly. But everything else was subpar.

Kiddie League sadly closed the fifties era for Woody Woodpecker cartoons in a mediocre way. One solid scene could not save this otherwise tiresome baseball-themed cartoon.

My Rating – 3.1
