Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom Movie Review
Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom is a 2018 science fiction action film directed by J. A. Bayona and starring Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard. It’s a passable, foolish movie.

given to other species? Or should they just be left to die?“

I personally find this movie in line with the previous one meaning that both films are mindless and certainly not great, but passable, okay flicks for what they are and both have their redeeming qualities. This one is actually redeemable in its effort to do something different. I really disliked the idea of militarized dinosaurs and whenever the film wanted to be sophisticated, it failed miserably owing to poor dialogue and cartoony villains, but at least they tried something different and did not rely on already established formulas.
I disliked the political stuff here, but I really liked some action-adventure moments such as the short underwater excursion, some of the chases and a couple of dinosaur fights are a lot of fun. The film was best when it tried to be fun and stupid because in those animal rights, evolution topics, it struggled entirely as these filmmakers and writers are just not clever enough for that.

Chris Pratt continues to be a great action hero for this franchise and Bryce Dallas Howard is actually much better, more competent here than she was previously. Both share evident chemistry leading to an effective romantic couple. Justice Smith and Daniella Pineda play two infuriating characters. The first movie had horrible kid characters and this one has two insufferable teens leading me to question this franchise for wanting to include such characters when they almost always fail.
The villains are absolutely horrible. They are so cartoony and so stupid and one-note that they wouldn’t work in animation even. They just are so unfortunate that they bring the entire movie down a notch with them. As for Maisie, I really liked what they were going for with her and I got it, but even though intriguing in plot, she was ultimately underused and underutilized.
The special effects are strong in Fallen Kingdom and the action is mostly very good. The film can be quite entertaining in some scenes, but also quite boring in some other scenes. The pacing is problematic and again the film is overlong. The action and especially cinematography are great, but the script and dialogue are bad. J. A. Bayona is a great director who disappointed me with this effort.

A. Bayona is an excellent director, but he disappointed me so much with Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom as he did not manage to elevate the material at all. The film is superbly shot, some action scenes are a lot of fun and the two protagonists are a good couple, but the film struggled in its dialogue which is terrible, the villains are horribly one-note, the two adolescents are simply insufferable and even though it’s commendable that they tried something different in the script department, they nonetheless failed at the story owing to such bad writing and whenever the film tried to be serious, it was boring and unsophisticated. It’s at its best when being a mindless and fun spectacle. Overall, it’s pretty much of the same quality as its predecessor.
